Specialty - Gynaecology
Overview
Gynaecology is the area of medicine that deals with health issues and conditions that are specific to women's reproductive organs and genitalia, excluding breast disease. The reproductive organs consist of: the ovaries that release an egg every month, the fallopian tubes that lead from the ovaries to the uterus (womb) which is where a baby will grow if the egg is fertilised during sexual intercourse, the cervix (opening of the uterus), the vagina and vulva.
Service provided includes:-
- General Gynaecological consultations
- Laparoscopy - Keyhole surgery including sterilization using a telescope through the abdominal wall.
- Colposcopy - Using a microscope to view the cervix where there has been an abnormal smear.
- Hysteroscopy - A telescope is used to check the cavity of uterus.
- A range of surgery including hysterectomy (both abdominal and vaginal), prolapse surgery and acute gynaecological surgical services.
