Grant Pollard, HEHA Portfolio Manager

The main functions of Grant’s role are planning health services, contract management, and service development. These functions are done within the requirements set out by the Ministry of Health. Grant and Kelly are responsible for completing the Ministry Approved Plan (MAP) for the Bay of Plenty region. The MAP sets the direction for HEHA activity in the BOPDHB area annually.

Kelly Bullen, HEHA and Child & Youth Portfolio Manager Maori Health

Kelly’s focus is helping to improve the health and wellbeing of Maori communities and reducing health inequalities through HEHA. The main functions of her role are planning health services, contract management, and service development for Maori Providers. In addition to this she is responsible for helping to implement the BOPDHB’s HEHA plans.

Cynthia Turuwhenua, HEHA Maori Community Coordinator

The primary function of this role is to administer the Maori Community Action Projects Fund. This involves supporting the development of projects by Hapu and Marae-based communities within Te Moana-a-Toi Bay of Plenty. Each project will meet specific local needs with an emphasis on activity, nutrition and reducing obesity; examples include community gardens, cooking demonstrations and targeted exercise.

Stephen Cameron, HEHA Community Educator

Stephen’s focuses on improving the nutrition and physical activity environment within the community by delivering health education programmes:

  • Good simple nutrition education
  • Cost effective meal planning advice (working with a limited budget)
  • Simple healthy cooking techniques
  • Maintaining the essence of Maori kai preparation with a focus on good nutrition
  • Interactive cooking classes with hands-on learning
  • A fun and empowering environment

Rebecca Silvester, HEHA Communications Officer

Rebecca’s role is to raise public awareness of HEHA related activities and events, by writing media releases and liaising with the media. Rebecca supports HEHA providers and those involved in HEHA activities with their communication needs. Rebecca manages the HEHA pages of the BOPDHB website.

Siobhan Miller

Siobhan is a nutrition advisor to Toi Te Ora - Public Health which serves the Bay of Plenty and Lakes regions. Her role is to help to plan and deliver nutrition related health promotion projects and policies that promote, protect and improve population health.

Christine Cheong, PHO Dietitian

Christine is employed by Nga Mataapuna Oranga PHO utilising BOPDHB funding to support all PHOs in the Western BOP. Her role is to deliver train-the-trainer style workshops with Maori community health workers, and nutrition and physical activity presentations in Hauora and communities. Christine also provides nutrition advice and support for PHO and Hauora projects.
