Merivale Community Centre

Mums are learning how to make healthier meals for their families at cooking classes. Advice is simple and practical to help them make changes to their everyday lives.

Huria Marae Kaumatua Program

The ladies from Huria Marae Kaumatua program are learning some good nutrition ideas at their monthly healthy cooking class.

Mataatua Sports Trust Hapu challenge

The Hapu challenge is a 10 week healthy living programme with ongoing monitoring and support. Includes physical activity as well as healthy eating education. HEHA Community Educator Stephen Cameron gives healthy eating demonstrations as part of the programme.

ACC Tauranga Stepping up to Safety Day

Steeping up to Safety day was supported by Toi Te Ora – Public Health and HEHA by providing tasty healthy cooking tips and a nutrition presentation on healthy eating for older people.

Huria Marae Whanau Healthy Cooking and Nutrition Class

Whanau at Huria Marae are all getting on board with the healthy cooking and nutrition class held at the Marae once a month.

Waitaha Hauoranga, Hei marae, Te Puke

Establish marae-based communal garden, develop mentoring/training skills, address chronic conditions within the hapū by targeted mentoring and improve overall whānau ora health outcomes for the hapū.

Ngaitai Iwi Authority Hauora, Tōrere marae, Torere

Develop a comprehensive Food Forest based on permaculture principles, executed within a tikanga Māori framework. Launch the concept of an innovation for ecological sustainability, combined with whānau ora health outcomes and hapū economic development.

Hūria Management Trust Hauora, Ngai Tamarāwaho hapū, Judea, Tauranga

Teaching nutritious healthy diet and kai options and cooking demonstrations. Support the information with physical exercise programmes such as tai chi and the establishment of a hapu-led gym.

Wairaka Marae, Ngāti Pūkeko hapū, Wairaka, Whakatane

Develop a hapū/community maara kai or vegetable garden, with marae-based cooking demonstrations and nutrition workshops incorporating a whānau ora approach and leadership from the local Māori Womens Welfare League.
