Clinical Services

Clinical services are delivered from the Tauranga and Whakatane Hospital sites. Services include emergency, outpatients, radiology, laboratory, pathology, pharmacy, clerical, medical typing, health records and clinical equipment services.

Emergency services at Tauranga provide level-four emergency care while Whakatane emergency department is a level-three emergency service.

The Tauranga and Whakatane outpatients departments (OPD) facilitate the nursing, technician and consumables support for specialist-led, visiting specialist, and allied-health led clinics.

Radiology services at Tauranga include x-rays, fluoroscopy, CT, cardiac catheterisation and ultrasound. Radiology services at Whakatane include x-rays, fluoroscopy, CT and ultrasound.

Core pharmacy services are delivered seven days per week in Tauranga and five days per week from Whakatane. Outside of opening hours, there is a pharmacist on call.

The Whakatane Hospital laboratory provides diagnostic laboratory testing services for hospital and community consumers. Tauranga laboratory services are subcontracted to Medlab.

The clerical team provides administrative support to services.

The health records service provides security, access, retrieval, maintenance and safety of patient/client records and makes this information available to health professionals.
